Discover Your Why!

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

Discovering your why to get healthy involves self-reflection and understanding your personal motivations and values. Here are a few steps to help you uncover your why:

  1. Reflect on Your Current State: Take some time to reflect on your current health and how it’s impacting your life. Consider the aspects that are bothering you or hindering your overall well-being. Think about how your health is affecting your energy levels, mood, relationships, or ability to engage in activities you enjoy. This reflection can provide clarity on why you want to make a change.

2. Identify Your Values: Consider the values that are important to you in life. What do you prioritize? Is it longevity, vitality, being present for your loved ones, personal growth, or something else? Identifying your core values will help you connect your health goals with what truly matters to you.

3. Set Personal Goals: Think about what you want to achieve in terms of your health and well-being. It could be weight loss, increased fitness, improved mental clarity, better sleep, or managing a specific health condition. Clearly define your goals and make them specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).

4. Dig Deeper: Ask yourself why each goal is important to you. Keep asking “why” and exploring deeper layers of motivation until you uncover the core reasons. For example, if your goal is weight loss, ask why you want to lose weight. It could be to improve self-confidence, enhance overall health, or set a positive example for your children. Understanding the underlying motivations will give you a strong sense of purpose.

5. Visualize the Future: Envision how achieving your health goals will impact your life. Imagine yourself in a healthier state, experiencing the positive changes you desire. Visualizing the future can strengthen your motivation and create a compelling image of what you’re striving for.

Remember, your why is unique to you, and it may evolve over time. Be honest with yourself, embrace your motivations, and use them as a driving force to stay committed to your health journey. It can also be helpful to seek support from a healthcare professional, coach, or trusted friends and family members who can provide guidance and encouragement along the way.
